If you're planning on sharing a ride to work or school this maybe the week to start, it's Rideshare week, and you can win a prize just for traveling with a friend and sharing a picture of it.
People are always encouraged to commute together to save on gas and reduce traffic, but this week people in central Virginia have another sweet incentive to do so.
The first 100 people who send a picture to Rideshare showing themselves carpooling, using public transit, biking, walking, or even telecommuting to school or work will get a $10 gift card to Dunkin' Donuts. Plus, if you provide contact information for those you ride with, they will also get a gift card.
Rideshare is an organization that aims to reduce traffic congestion and increase mobility throughout central Virginia, and this is their way of thanking conscious commuters.
"We just want people to be aware that there are many people around central Virginia that are doing this each day and you can do it too," said Lisa Horanyi, Rideshare's program manager.
The event also highlights some of Rideshare's services, like free carpool coordination and their Guaranteed Ride Home program for people in an emergency.
Rideshare week runs Monday, October 14 through Friday, October 18.
