Albemarle County police officers took orders Saturday night to raise money for a good cause.
The Tip-A-Cop fundraiser was held at the Red Robin restaurant in Fashion Square Mall. Albemarle officers worked as waiters and waitresses to collect donations. The annual event is in conjunction with the law enforcement torch run to benefit Virginia's Special Olympics.
"There's so many times that all we get to do is get to deal with the negativity of the community and this is an opportunity for us to really be part of the positives in our community and really help out a portion of the community that sometimes doesn't have a voice," said Sgt. Steven Wilkins of the Albemarle County Police Department.
Police took donations at Red Robin until 8 p.m. Their goal was to raise $2,000 and they raised $2,200.
