Charlottesville PD Looking for Third Dog to Join K-9 Unit
The Charlottesville Police Department is on the lookout for its third police dog. With its newest canine away in training, Charlottesville police have their sights on getting another.
It would be a dog like one of their current dogs, Leo, who is considered the Ferrari of K-9 units. Leo, a Belgian malinois, is the same breed of dog that helped hunt down Osama Bin Laden.
"He is a very high-energy dog , very athletic, very high drive, has a lot of desire to work is a dog that needs a job and police work is very well suited for this type of dog," said Lynn Childers, master police officer with the Charlottesville Police Department.
Childers says Leo is cross-trained for patrol and for searching out hidden narcotics. That's why dogs like him are in such high demand.
