On Capitol Hill Wednesday, Virginia's senators joined other Democrats with a familiar message.
As the federal shutdown continues, and the debt limit crisis draws closer, they're calling on House Republicans to vote to reopen the government and raise the debt limit before any negotiations begin on the Affordable Care Act.
Tim Kaine and Mark Warner detailed how Virginia is affected by the shutdown - including losses in tourism dollars and research innovations.
"We need to rally out of patriotic love for this nation to reopen government," said Kaine.
"This is a threat to not only our economy but our well-being," said Warner.
Earlier, the House of Representatives voted unanimously to provide death benefits to families of fallen soldiers. That measure now heads to the Senate, as a showdown over increasing the nation's debt limit approaches next week.
