Charlottesville Man Found Guilty of Rape

On September 23rd, 2012 Charlottesville Police responded to a reported Rape in the 1200 block of Wertland Street. A 17 year old female reported to Police that she was raped by an unknown assailant. The victim was at a gathering attended by UVA students when she was forcibly taken into a bathroom and raped by the suspect.

The victim was able to scream for help and the suspect fled from the area. It was determined later that the suspect was not invited to the party. An extensive investigation ensued and a suspect was identified. On September 27, 2012, Manneh Vay, a 20 year old resident of Charlottesville was arrested and charged with Abduction, Rape, and Forcible Sodomy.

On Friday, October 4, 2013, Vay was found guilty by a jury of all charges.

The jury has recommended a sentence of 30 years. Formal sentencing is pending.
