Ball State Upsets UVa Football 48-27

Posted: Updated:

Ball State's Keith Wenning threw two touchdowns and ran for another to take down Virginia football 48-27 on Saturday at Scott Stadium.

Virginia's David Watford was 21-of-36 passing for 209 yards with one interception. Running back Kevin Parks had two touchdowns.

"Obviously today we didn't play well, it was embarrassing to have that happen here at home," said UVa Head Coach Mike London. He added, "That's a good football team I have to give them credit, but you can't have that many penalties, you can't turn the ball over and you have to be able to stop the run, especially the passing game, you have to put pressure on the quarterback and we didn't do a good job today obviously, we have a lot of work to do and we have to take ownership of this."

Quarterback David Watford said, "He had a really serious demeanor about him (London). He said we can either lay down and quit, or we can come back fighting, we have to come back fighting.  He asked us if anyone wanted to quit and everyone said no, we have a fighting spirit, we just have to keep pushing."

The Cardinals had no turnovers.

Meanwhile, the Cavaliers looked hot on the offensive end with 459 yards but their performance was overshadowed by missed opportunities, turnovers and penalties.

Brent Urban, UVa Defensive Tackle, said, "Too many mistakes, after big plays we kind of didn't really bounce back, we didn't tighten things up and make the adjustments we needed to make as a defense and that really hurt us."

The Cavaliers fall to 2-3, and 0-1 in the ACC.

Quarterback David Watford said, "He had a really serious demeanor about him (London). The Cavaliers hit the road next Saturday to face Maryland at 3:30 p.m.
