Fluvanna Historical Society Hosts 18th Annual Old Farm Day
Fluvanna County celebrated its heritage as a farming community Saturday.
Pleasant Grove hosted the 18th annual Old Farm Day featuring antique farming equipment, barnyard animals, and homemade crafts and food.
The Fluvanna Historical Society puts together the event to share with visitors how farming in the county has changed over the years. Old Farm Day also raises funds to open a permanent museum at Pleasant Grove about Fluvanna's agricultural roots.
"This is about the agrarian lifestyle - the life here in a small, rural community. We still have a lot of farmers who continue their farming," said Judy Mickelson of the Fluvanna Historical Society. "We're very rich in this county with people who come here, settle here and do good things for the land."
Organizers expected about 5,000 visitors. Old Farm Day also included an apple pie contest.
