The NBC 29/Kroger Tailgate Party will be at Albemarle High School Friday night, as the Patriots host cross-county rival Western Albemarle.

These teams play each other every year, but Friday will be the first time the two teams will meet as Jefferson District rivals.

This will be the Patriots first ever Jefferson District home game.

Both teams are 1-0 in the district.

Albemarle has lost the last couple years to Western, and the Patriots want payback.

AHS senior cornerback Jordan Shelton says, "We've had some rough patches with Western.  It's always a good, hard-fought game when we play them.  Two years ago we lot by a point.  Last year was a tough battle.  We're looking forward to a tough challenge this Friday night."

"I think it's going to be a battle," WAHS senior WR/DB Burks Summers.  "They're a really good team.  We're a pretty good team.  Hopefully it'll be a close game.  Nobody wants to go out on a losing note, especially when you can go home and say, 'That's the last time I'll ever play them,' hopefully you can go home with a 'W'."

Western Albemarle and Albemarle kickoff Friday at 7pm at AHS.
