Virginia Department of Transportation Press Release
PAVEMENT WORK SCHEDULED TONIGHT AT RT. 29 AND I-64
Repaving will repair damage from truck crash; expect detours due to ramp closings
CULPEPER – A contractor for the Virginia Department of Transportation will make repairs to the pavement on the interchange at Interstate 64 and Route 29 in Albemarle County this evening. The pavement was damaged when a large truck overturned at the interchange on Aug. 26.
Beginning at 7 p.m. the northbound and southbound left lanes on Route 29, and the northbound will be closed so the pavement can be milled and repaved. Once that work is completed the I-64 westbound exit ramp onto Route 29 southbound and the right southbound lane so those lanes can be milled and paved. That closure should happen at or after 10 p.m.
During the first phase of the work, traffic headed north on Route 29 turning onto I-64 west will be detoured north to the Fontaine Avenue exit to reverse direction and enter I-64 using the southbound ramp. During the closure of the I-64 west to Route 29 south ramp, traffic headed south on Route 29 will be detoured to Route 29 north (exit 118B), then to Fontaine Avenue and reverse direction onto Route 29 southbound. The work is expected to be completed early Friday morning.
