Statement from Rodney Thomas
Albemarle County, October 3, 2013: On the morning of October 3, in an NBC 29 story, Rio District Supervisor Rodney Thomas was accused by his opponent, Brad Sheffield, of making personal attacks in regards to a 10 year old bankruptcy.
Rodney Thomas and the campaign wholeheartedly deny that allegation. The first public mention of this bankruptcy appeared on Mr. Sheffield's own website and Mr. Sheffield's own campaign was the proximate cause of the original story on NBC 29 news. This story did not originate with Mr. Thomas's campaign. This easily obtainable public information had been offered to the campaign from multiple sources and it had been quickly and unanimously rejected for use in Mr. Thomas's re-election bid. At no time did Mr. Thomas nor his campaign contact the press about this matter in order to make it public.
As a member of the Sorensen Institute for Political Leadership Mr. Thomas has always valued civility and positive campaigning in this and during his previous election campaign. That is the record Mr. Thomas will stand on.
The campaign is saddened that this baseless accusation leveled against Mr. Thomas, who's career of public and community service, speak for itself. The issues that face the Rio District and Albemarle County are where Mr. Thomas and his campaign will focus their efforts in the last month of the campaign.
