Bandwagon Growing for the #1 Ranked UVa Women's Soccer Team

The UVa women's soccer team beat Maryland last weekend 1-0 front of a record breaking crowd of 2,540 Cavalier fans.

UVa senior defender Morgan Stith says, "I didn't even notice, I just noticed the band."

Cavalier coach Steve Swanson says"our fans were always there for us, always supported us so its just great that they're still here for us... I've had a bond with the team for years but I think its nice to see others get a bond with the team because I think they're a special group."

The top ranked, undefeated Cavaliers blanked the 22nd ranked Terps 1-0 last weekend.

UVa sophomore Brittany Ratcliffe says, "Its crazy but we definitely got to keep it going. It's awesome."

While being number one is a nice change of pace

Stith says, "I've had so many people come up to me and say that's so awesome you're number one so its really nice to have support for women's soccer for once."

The 'Hoos know maintaining that wont be easy.

Stith adds,"we have sort of this target on our back so everybody is going to give us their best effort."

Swanson says, "They've really gone about it in the right way. They're just focused on the team and what we can do to get better."

With a strong fourth year class, two fifth year seniors and powerhouses like Morgan Brian the Virginia women's soccer team knows they are moving in the right direction.

Swanson says, "we've got good leadership, everyone is together."

Stith says, "I think this year we really have awesome chemistry on and off the field and so we're really close. We have this motto all in, we're all in mentally, physically, during the game and at practice."

This is a group that knows "All in" doesn't only apply to the ranking by their name, but their end goal of winning a national title.

Ratcliffe says, "Its a good thing to have but we really don't pay attention to rankings because at the end of the day all that matter is that you win the national championship at the end of the year."
