Kevin Olgetree Signs with Lions, Eugene Monroe Traded to Ravens

Posted: Updated:

Two former UVa football players have new homes in the NFL.   Kevin Olgetree has signed a one-year contract with the Lions.   Eugene Monroe has been traded from the Jaguars to the Ravens.

Olgetree was cut by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Tuesday.  He signed with the Bucs in March after his most productive season in the NFL in 2012, catching 32 passes with the Dallas Cowboys for 436 yards and four touchdowns.   Olgetree adds depth in Detroit where the Lions lost their number-two receiver, Nate Burleson, recently with a broken arm.

Eugene Monroe has been traded to the Ravens in exchange for multiple third-day draft picks in 2014.   Monroe had been the starting left tackle for the Jags.  He was the 8th overall pick of the 2009 NFL draft.   Monroe could replace struggling Bryant McKinnie on the offensive line in Baltimore.
