Crown Orchard Apples Available at Kroger Stores in Cville
Kroger Press Release
Kroger shoppers in Charlottesville now can buy apples straight from the orchard.
Through an agreement with Crown Orchard Co., Kroger now is carrying fresh, locally grown apples delivered directly to the three stores serving Charlottesville:
1904 Emmet Street
1980 Rio Hill Center
1159 Emmet Street (Barracks Road)
The apples are grown by Crown Orchard, one of central Virginia's largest fruit growers. Crown Orchard has seven major orchards spread over a 15-mile radius. Families throughout Virginia know Crown for its Carter Mountain Orchard, set on 200 breathtaking acres and featuring a panoramic view of Charlottesville. Crown has been operated by the Chiles family since 1912.
"We are pleased to support local growers in our area," said Allison McGee, spokesperson for Kroger's Mid-Atlantic division. "Not only are our customers receiving fresh products directly from the orchard, they are joining Kroger in supporting family businesses."
Crown Orchard apples also are delivered directly to other Kroger stores in central Virginia.
In addition, during the season, Crown Orchard stone fruit is sold in all Kroger stores in the Mid-Atlantic division. They are delivered to the Kroger warehouse in Salem and then distributed to stores in Virginia, West Virginia, North Carolina and the eastern portions of Tennessee, Kentucky and Ohio.
