A 57-year-old pedestrian was killed this morning after being struck while walking in the travel lane of Sperryville Pike.

Police said Kevin Brown, of the 1000 block of Sperryville Pike, was transported to Culpeper Regional Hospital where he was pronounced dead about 7:10 a.m.

The accident happened about 6:40 a.m. A 1988 Jeep driven by a 43-year-old Culpeper County woman was headed east on Sperryville Pike. She swerved into the turn lane to avoid Brown who was in the middle of the eastbound travel lane. The right front of her Jeep struck the victim, police said.

Brown was in front of his home when the accident occurred.

The Culpeper Police Department's Accident Reconstruction Team was called to the scene to assist Master Police Officer Tim Sisk with the investigation.

The accident remains under investigation. No charges have been filed.
