The Staunton-Augusta YMCA is getting closer to no longer being located behind the Pizza Hut.
The Y purchased the Pizza Hut property a few months ago with the intention of razing it, but has been waiting for the restaurant to find a new home. Now it has, and the new, takeout-only Pizza Hut is moving to Richmond Avenue in a month or so according to employees.
The Y's executive director, Moris Peltz, says they bought the property for two reasons.
"Visibility and parking are really critical to us. I mean we've grown significantly. We're between the six- and seven-thousand member mark at this point," he said.
Peltz estimates they will gain 15 to 20 parking spaces and he's optimistic it will happen before winter.
