Taybronne White Murder Trial Day 6

Posted: Updated:

A Greene County jury heard lengthy back and forth on DNA details during day six of the Taybronne White triple murder trial Tuesday. A forensic scientist testified for more than six hours about DNA found on evidence collected in this case.

Investigators say White shot and killed Brian Lee Daniels, Dustin Knighton and Lisa Hwang in May 2011. Police say he killed them after a botched home invasion and robbery gone wrong on Ford Avenue, just over a mile away from where their bodies were found on Octonia Road.

The commonwealth called a handful of forensic science experts to the witness stand throughout the day. Their testimonies were focused on DNA, trace evidence, and firearms analysis.

DNA expert Angie Rainey talked about six DNA profiles she used for comparing her samples - one each for the defendant, the three who were killed and the two home invasion victims, Jermaine Frye and Willie Roy.

She testified on analysis of several samples - including DNA found on a gun and blood found on T-shirts, a pair of shoes, and on different locations in Hwang's Honda Civic. White's DNA was found on evidence from items including a pistol, steering wheel, and a blood-stained black T-shirt.

The defense spent about two hours questioning Rainey on other DNA detected on those items and methods of DNA analysis.

On Friday, the jury heard for the first time that police discovered the DNA swabs of the two home invasion victims disappeared less than two weeks ago.

Before court let out Tuesday, the jury heard from a firearms expert who testified that two of the three victims were shot with two different guns.

Investigators say Daniels was shot using a 9 mm handgun and Hwang was killed using a .22-caliber rifle.

The trial will continue Wednesday morning.
