With just over five weeks left until Election Day, people streamed into Albemarle County Saturday afternoon to speak about why Terry McAuliffe should be Virginia's next governor.
Now the candidate's wife, Dorothy McAuliffe, and former Michigan governor Jennifer Granholm are out garnering up support for the Democratic ticket.
"We need to take our country back. We need to put pragmatic people in charge," Granholm said.
Granholm says she traveled to Virginia to support candidate Terry McAuliffe on behalf of the country. "If you look at what's going on in Washington D.C. right now, so much of that is a result of people who are on the extremes being elected in 2010," she said.
Granholm spoke to the crowd at the 25th annual Albemarle County Democratic Barbecue and Fundraiser about the focus on job creation to move Virginia forward. "If we don't have governors who are obsessed about job creation in America, putting people to work then we're missing the boat," she stated.
It's a concept McAuliffe's wife is touting on behalf of the campaign. "We know that with all the federal spending and the sequestration - it affects Virginia very much," she said. "Terry talks about that all the time and what we need is someone who has a lot of creative background in business and creative ideas and interest in pushing forward new technologies and new areas of growth in terms of the economy."
Other Albemarle County democratic candidates also took to the microphone to make their case - and support the party's top ticket in what many say is a pivotal election for the nation.
"This is a huge election for Virginia, yes, but really for the country because it is at the front wave of all of these elections that will happen in 2014," Granholm said.
