Cats up for adoption at Madison County Animal Shelter
A Madison couple's six-figure donation is helping the county's animal shelter expand and find more pets forever homes. Harry and Evelyn Topping left behind $166,000 for the Madison County Animal Shelter.
The money is allowing the shelter to do some renovations - including new flooring and space for cats. The shelter added the Toppings Room where potential pet owners can meet and interact with adoptees.
"The adoptions have increased due to the interaction of the pets. It has increased our adoptions, because the more interaction people have with the pets, I do believe that will increase adoptions," said Greg Cave, Madison County shelter manager and chief animal control officer.
So far, the donation has helped more than 210 dogs and cats find new homes and get spayed or neutered at low cost.
The shelter will host a celebration of the Toppings expansion Saturday at 11 a.m.
