Harrisonburg Announces 10-Day International CommUNITY Celebration
Harrisonburg Tourism and Visitor Services Press Release
For the second consecutive year, Harrisonburg Tourism &
Visitor Services has partnered with the community
to organize the Harrisonburg International CommUNITY Celebration as an
extension of the annual Harrisonburg International Festival.
This 10-day celebration highlights special events,
activities, performances and promotions that honor the diverse cultures and
backgrounds that make up the local community. The celebration aims to bring local,
regional and national recognition and awareness to the rich cultural diversity
of people and businesses in the area.
This year, the celebration will kick off on Sept. 27 with a
Drumming Downtown public drum circle in Court Square led by Mike Deaton. The
public is invited to celebrate the world through community music-making at this
event, and drums will be available for use. Following the drum circle will be
an international-themed film screening at Court Square Theater at 7:15pm.
Saturday, Sept. 28, will mark the 16th annual Harrisonburg
International Festival, which will bring a colorful array of performing, visual
and culinary arts from around the world to Hillandale Park. This year a new
festival project – a community cookbook with recipes submitted by locals of
various cultures – will be available. As in previous years, this festival is
free and family-friendly.
