Cville Man Facing Sexual Battery Charge Appears in Court

Posted: Updated: Oct 01, 2013 05:13 PM EST

UPDATE: Michael Saylor waived his right to a preliminary hearing in court on October 1. He is scheduled to be back in court October 7.

A Charlottesville man accused of a child sex crime was in Charlottesville Albemarle Juvenile and Domestic Relations Court Monday morning for what was scheduled as a preliminary hearing.

Michael Saylor, 58, was arrested August 23 for aggravated sexual battery. He faces one count of aggravated sexual battery of a child under the age of 13.

We were expecting to get new details on what kind of evidence led Albemarle County police to arrest Saylor, but that didn't happen Monday. His court appearance was fairly brief.

Albemarle County police haven't said much about the arrest details - including when the alleged offense happened - only saying it was within the past several years.

Court records show that Saylor was also arrested for an aggravated sexual battery charge back in 2010, but a trial in 2012 ended in a mistrial. Prosecutors did not move forward with a second trial.

Friday, attorneys set a date to return to court next month October 1. Saylor was told to stay in touch with his attorney for updates in the case.
