Storm debris stuck under a bridge over the Rivanna River is forcing the Virginia Department of Transportation to close that road to traffic this week.

Proffit Road will be closed to through traffic from Route 20 to Quarles Road in Albemarle County starting Monday morning. VDOT needs to move in heavy equipment to remove large trees and other storm debris that lodged against a bridge pier. Detour signs will direct traffic around the closure.

Proffit Road should re-open Wednesday.
