Charlottesville HS running back Chris Thurston is expected to start in Friday's game against William Monroe.
Thurston missed the Black Knights' season opener with a high ankle sprain and only played on a few plays in Charlottesville's second game against Culpeper. Thurston has had a good week of practice so far and appears ready to run.
Thurston says, "Being out those last two games was the worst thing ever, this injury was something that I had to deal with. Right now I'm gathering my thoughts and getting focused being back on the field. I feel like I let my team down getting injured, I mean there was nothing I could do, nothing I could stop but I went back and I'm ready to fight for my team."
William Monroe FB/LB Malik Mallory says, "They'll be faster than both of the teams we've played so far, we got to do some different things on defense to stop them from getting outside. If they get outside they'll be gone for a touchdown, we can't let that happen, but they're also supposed to be smaller so its another game on the run.
William Monroe has a record of 0-2. Charlottesville is 1-1 thanks to Culpeper having to forfeit its game against the Knights because Culpeper used an illegal player.
Monroe and CHS kickoff at 7:30pm Friday at WMHS. NBC29 will be there for our weekly Kroger tailgate party.
