People were raising money Wednesday to help fight breast cancer in Albemarle County. Wednesday afternoon, Belk department store in Charlottesville held a bra sale supporting the Susan G. Komen foundation.
For every bra sold, both Belk and Wacoal Bra Company donated $2 to the foundation to help fight the disease.
"The most touching thing about this event today is how many breast cancer survivors have come out to get fittings because they heard about it and they just wanted to do what they could," said Jackie Hensley, special events coordinator at Belk.
Representatives from the University of Virginia Breast Care Center also took part in the event.
"We believe strongly in getting out to be able to speak to women of our community and share the benefits of screening mammography and our new imaging modality that we offer at UVA Tomosynthesis," said Dr. Brandi Nicholson of the UVA Breast Care Center.
Belk and Wacoal have pledged to donate a minimum of $1 million to the foundation.
This Saturday, Belk will be hosting the "Big C New Me" cosmetics show, promoting self confidence among cancer survivors.
