Culpeper Woman Dies in Accident on Sperryville Turnpike

Ref: Single Vehicle Fatality Accident

On September 15, 2013, Deputy Charles Burgoon and Corporal Rick McKinley of the Culpeper County Sheriff’s Office responded to a single vehicle accident in the 10000-block of Sperryville Turnpike at 10:35 p.m. Sheriff’s Office deputies located a 2000 Ford Focus that over corrected to the left, causing it to spin, hitting a ditch and began to roll causing property damage to a fence, mailbox and planter.

The front passenger, Jessica Johnson, 21 years old of Culpeper was ejected. Jessica Johnson was transported to Culpeper Regional Hospital where she was pronounced dead.

The driver of the vehicle John McDevitt, 19 years old of Culpeper (license suspended) and the rear passenger Thomas Johnson, 18 years old of Culpeper were flown out by helicopter to the University of Virginia Medical Center due to the injuries they received in the accident.

Accident Reconstruction Team has responded to the scene and the accident is still under investigation. Charges may result once the investigation is complete.
