Longwood Lacrosse Player Accidentally Shot

At approximately 8 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 15, the Farmville Police Department along with the Longwood Police Department responded to the 500 block of High Street following a 911 call.

Upon arrival it was determined that Longwood student Jacob E. Richardson, 22, while showing a personally owned firearm to a friend, Kathleen N. Battle, 21, also a Longwood student, accidentally discharged the firearm causing a bullet wound to her leg.

She was transported to Centra Southside Community Hospital with a non-life-threatening injury. Farmville police are handling the investigation. There is no ongoing threat.

Kathleen Battle is a sophomore lacrosse player at Longwood University. She went to St. Anne's Belfield School in Charlottesville for four years.
