The #2 Virginia women's soccer team beat Syracuse 3-0 Thursday at Klockner Stadium.
The shutout is the 5th of the season for the Cavaliers (7-0, 1-0 ACC), and they have scored at least three goals in every game this season.
Sophomore Makenzy Doniak scored her 5th goal of the game to give UVa the lead in the first half, and freshman Alexis Shaffer added her second tally of the season a little over five minutes later.
Freshman Brittany Ratcliffe added her team-leading 6th goal of the season in the second half.
Head coach Steve Swanson says, "I thought we scored some great goals. Good ball movement, which we've been working on a little bit the past few days. So it was a good start for us."
Shaffer says, "We take each game one by one, so going into the ACC there's going to be a bunch of tough teams. This is my first year going into the ACC conference, so I'm excited."
"It's definitely a faster-paced game," adds Ratcliffe. "Everyone is more athletic. They're just better and better teams. It's going to be interesting as the ACC gets further along."
Virginia will play on the road for the first time this season next Thursday, as they travel to visit Boston College.
