12,2013 – Charlottesville, VA – On September 30TEDxCharlottesville
will host a free Open Mic Night at the Jefferson Theater on the downtown
mall. Thirty participants have been chosen to give their best
2-minute speech and the audience will vote for their favorite
electronically. The topics will vary greatly but all will follow
with TEDxCharlottesville's 2013 theme, "The Difference That Makes a
The winner from the
event will earn a space at the first-ever standard TEDxCharlottesville event on
November 15at the Paramount Theater.
"The response we
received was phenomenal." TEDx committee member, Ann Kinston expressed. "We are
overwhelmed and ecstatic by the number of folks who applied to speak. TED is
about bringing ideas and people together to share in progressive discussion,
which couldn't be more fitting for the Charlottesville community."
Over 65 people applied
to be part of the evening. There will be speeches, poems, and dance
performances from the speaker contestants; sure to be an entertaining evening.
Attendees are advised to
arrive early, since space is limited. Doors will open at 6:30 p.m. and
speakers will start shortly after. There will be music, a cash bar and prizes
throughout the night.
The main event,
TEDxCharlottesville "The Difference That Makes a Difference", will be held on November
15, 2013, from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. at the Paramount Theater with a reception
and live music concert at the Jefferson Theater.
