The site of the fatal motorcycle crash on Rio Road.
A fatal motorcycle accident closed part of East Rio Road for about two hours Tuesday.
Police say, around 3:30 p.m., a motorcyclist was headed west on Rio when he collided with a GMC Yukon making a turn onto Pen Park Lane. The motorcyclist, 18-year-old Randy Lee McKinstry Jr. of Charlottesville, died at the scene but those in the Yukon were not injured.
An accident construction team investigated the crash. Police say it appeared McKinstry was speeding and that that was a factor in the crash.
Rio Road was re-opened shortly after 5:30 p.m.
