LOUISA, Va. (AP) - Dominion Virginia Power plans to make disaster-related improvements at its North Anna power station while one of the reactors is shut down for refueling and maintenance.
Unit 1 was powered down over the weekend.
The Free Lance-Star reports that Dominion plans to install connections for hoses and external power supplies that could be used if the plant lost power and cooling water supplies during an emergency.
The newspaper says Dominion nuclear operations spokesman Richard Zuercher notified employees about the improvements in an email sent Monday.
The improvements are in response to a 2011 earthquake and tsunami that damaged the Fukushima Dai-ichi nuclear plant on Japan's northern coast.
