CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (AP) - The University of Virginia is offering two new academic programs to help students in social and economic fields use data and statistics.
The College and Graduate School of Arts & Sciences is offering a new minor in statistical analysis of social behavior. The McIntire School of Commerce has added a new study track called quantitative finance. Both programs begin this year.
Associate professor of commerce finance Michael Gallmeyer tells The Daily Progress that companies' use of financial data is increasing and students want to learn more about it.
Jeff Holt with the statistics department says a lot of data that could be useful to social scientists hasn't been analyzed.
U.Va. also plans to begin offering a new Ph.D. program in the School of Architecture in 2014.
