JMU Football Nearly Knocks Off FBS-Level Akron

The James Madison football team nearly beat FBS-level Akron Saturday, falling 35-33 on the Zips home field.

JMU jumped out to a 13-0 lead in the first half one two Dae'Quan Scott touchdowns, but trailed 14-13 at halftime.

Trailing 35-27 with under six minutes to play in the game, Dukes' quarterback Michael Birdsong connected with Dominick Richards for a five yard touchdown.

JMU went for two to try and tie the game, but Birdsong was sacked on the conversion attempt.

James Madison did get the ball back with 1:19 left to play, but were unable to move into scoring position.

The Dukes (1-1) host St. Francis next Saturday at 6 PM.
