Boys & Girls Club Kids Volunteer with Anti-Gang Organization
A valley organization determined to keep kids out of trouble is holding a yard sale Saturday.
The SAW Coalition does outreach in Staunton, Augusta and Waynesboro to prevent gang activity and drug use. A group of kids from the Boys & Girls Club of Waynesboro is cleaning up the Parkway Village Apartments and staining some donated picnic tables as a part of this initiative.
Their primary effort, however, is education.
"Going into the schools and teaching them about substance abuse, how to avoid situations with gangs, how to avoid situations and saying no to drugs. We know that's a cliché, but that's what we're teaching the kids. We do a lot of presentations in the community, teaching parents what kind of new drugs are coming into the community."
