Harrisonburg, VA – The City of Harrisonburg's Department of Public Works will be conducting routine maintenance on two bridges next week.
Starting on Monday, September 9, repairs will be made to a bridge on Chesapeake Avenue. Once those repairs are made, the contractor will begin work on a bridge that is located on North Main Street, near the Rockingham County Administration Building.
Every year, the City conducts inspections of bridges that fall within the City limits. During this year's inspection it was noted that these two bridges were in need of minor routine maintenance.
Both bridges are in need of deck and rail repairs.
Although some maintenance is needed, both bridges remain safe and structurally sound for all traffic.
While work is underway on Chesapeake Avenue, the road will be restricted to one travel lane with temporary stop signs.
Once the crews shift to North Main Street, travel will be restricted to one travel lane from East Gay Street to Kratzer Avenue.
Construction at both sites will take place during the daytime; however, the lane restrictions will remain in place for the duration of the work.
It is anticipated that all work will be completed by Friday, September 27.
