A man charged in an attempted robbery appeared in Charlottesville General District Court Friday at 10 a.m. for a bond hearing. A judge denied bond to 19-year-old Johnny Calderon Jr.
According to the prosecutor, Calderon, Gerald Allen and a third unidentified man snuck up to a home on Fontaine Avenue - armed and wearing masks - Tuesday night. When they attempted to rob two men at the house, those victims allegedly fought back and shoved the gun away from Calderon.
Calderon faces attempted robbery and firearms charges.
The prosecutor said Calderon has a criminal history of larceny and probation violation. The prosecution also said he should be denied bond because there is a third suspect still on the run.
Calderon's attorney requested the court release Calderon to his mother on bail, saying he had panic attacks in jail and was not a danger or a flight risk.
Calderon will remain in jail until his next court date scheduled for October 3.
Clarification: Calderon was in court for a bond hearing, not a preliminary hearing - as initially reported.
