Voting on VA Endangered Artifacts ends Thursday

Posted: Updated:

RICHMOND, Va. (AP) - Time is running out for Virginians to vote on the state's top 10 endangered artifacts.

More than 103,530 votes already have been cast. The balloting is being conducted online at www.vaTop10artifacts.org. It ends at midnight Thursday.

Sixteen artifacts have been nominated by museums, libraries and other cultural organizations. The oldest is a 1749 plaque marking the French territory in Colonial Virginia, nominated by the Virginia Historical Society. The most recent is a 1999 sculpture, nominated by the Radford University Art Museum.

The voting will be considered by an independent panel of conservators and others who will select a top 10, which will be announced Sept. 16. The Virginia Association of Museums project is intended to raise awareness of the importance of conserving historic and cultural treasures.
