Hokies are Big Underdogs for Season Opener against #1 Alabama
The Virginia Tech football team is a 19 and a half point underdog for Saturday's season opener against number one ranked Alabama. The game is at a neutral site at the Georgia Dome in Atlanta.
Alabama is the 2-time defending national champion. Virginia Tech is coming off its worst season in two decades, a 7-6 record in 2012.
Tech quarterback Logan Thomas says there's not much pressure because the Hokies are such big underdogs. Senior linebacker Jack Tyler says the Hokies have been talking about this game, and the perceived lack of respect for months.
Tyler says, "Our number one goal is to stop the run no matter who we are playing. We just happen to be playing a team that runs the ball very well so we're going to have to focus a little bit more on that."
Tech defensive end, James Gayle says, "Its always good to be the underdog going into a game. Alabama is a great team so we'll see what happens."
Hokie coach Frank Beamer says, "I tell our players they're probably the best team we've ever played, How often do you get a chance to play the best team in the country? How many times do you wake up in the morning and have that type of opportunity? And it's a good thing the game isn't always decided by... Its not who should win, its who DOES win."
