Greene Sheriff's Office Applies for Grant for "Shop with a Cop" Event
Greene County Sheriff's Office
Christmas is four months away but the Greene County Sheriff's Office is already trying to make it a special holiday for the little ones. The Sheriff's Office is applying for a $1,000 grant from Wal-Mart for its second annual "Shop with a Cop" event.
The event is a chance for children who wouldn't otherwise get Christmas gifts to go shopping at Wal-Mart for presents.
"Last year the children were thrilled to have the opportunity to go in a shop with a deputy sheriff and be able to pick out their own presents, and the parents were there also to make sure they got what they wanted," said Deputy Michael Martin with the Greene County Sheriff's Office.
Proceeds from the Sheriff's Office's annual golf tournament will also help fund the "Shop with a Cop" event.
The Major Russell Lane Annual Memorial Golf Tournament is scheduled for September 9 at the Green Hills Club in Stanardsville. The proceeds will benefit the Greene Alliance of Church/Community Efforts Inc. There is still room for additional sign-ups.
