"Book Brigade" Passes Books Through Albemarle to Library

Posted: Updated:

Hundreds of books are lining the shelves of the new Crozet library after volunteers passed them through the town by hand from the old library.

More than 350 Book Brigade volunteers - including students from Crozet elementary - celebrated the big move by posing for a heart-shaped photo to show their love for the new library. They are now part of a tradition in the Crozet community.

"When we moved into the train station in 1984, the village came out and moved every book. We moved a lot of the books, because it's grown so much, by truck. We saved the last 250 so the community could again come out and help move the last book to the new library," said Bill Schrader, Build Crozet Library fundraising chair.

The Build Crozet Library group has raised $900,000 toward its $1.6 million goal to furnish the library and stock it with new books.

The new library opens September 4.
