State Police Investigate Fatal Crash in Louisa

Virginia State Police are investigating a two-vehicle crash that claimed the life of a Hanover County man Sunday afternoon (August 25, 2013). Trooper M. Kriz responded to the crash that occurred at 2:10 p.m. on Route 601, less than a mile north of Route 652.

A 2005 Harley-Davidson SLS was southbound on Route 601 and coming through a curve when a 2006 Kia Sorento pulled out from a private drive into the path of the motorcycle. The motorcyclist, David E. Plemen, 53, of Beaverdam, Va., was thrown from the motorcycle and died at the scene. Plemen was wearing a helmet.

The driver of the Kia, Shannon L. Fields, 40, of Bumpass, Va., was not injured in the crash. He was wearing a seat belt.

Charges are pending as the crash remains under investigation at this time. Alcohol was not a factor.
