ROSELAND, Va. (AP) - More than 2,200 people sampled tastings from 32 Virginia craft breweries and one cidery at the 2013 Virginia Craft Brewers Fest in Nelson County Saturday.
The Virginia Craft Brewers Guild hosted the event Saturday at Devils Backbone Brewing Company, which included the second annual Virginia Craft Brewers Cup competition.
Officials say 20 judges reviewed 131 beers in 14 different categories.
In the best of show category, Devils Backbone Brewing Company won gold for its Smokehaus Lager, Radford's River Company Brewing won silver for its Wood Dog Porter and Hardywood Park Craft Brewery in Richmond took home bronze for its Gingerbread Stout.
The event was the centerpiece of Virginia Craft Beer Month. Officials say the growing craft beer industry already has made an impressive impact on the state's economy.
