UVa Women's Soccer Dominates Santa Clara 4-0 & Wins Klockner Classic
The Virginia Women's soccer team brought home their first ranked win of the season as they blanked Santa Clara 4-0 at Klockner Stadium. Along with the victory, the Cavaliers won the Klockner Classic, a tournament that featured three of the top 10 teams in the nation (#1 UNC, #9 Santa Clara, VCU.)
UVa Sophomore Brittany Ratcliffe scored twice and recorded her first multi-goal game of her career.
Ratcliffe explained, "they were great passes from Makenzy and Morgan, so I was just like put it away and don't miss it. Santa Clara is awesome so for us to come out and win 4-0, I thought we played really good but they're a good team we just scored a lot of goals I guess."
The Cavalier controlled a majority of the game and outshot Santa Clara 18-3.
Morgan Brian had a goal and an assist. Brian said, "It was good for us. I think we took steps towards everything we need to do and everything is positive that we can take away from it. Scoring 8 goals this weekend was great and we played some good soccer while we did it...Our quick ball movement right now and just everyone's unselfish right now and just getting our ball off our feet one-two touch and right now everything is clicking so lets just hope it keeps going like that."
Head Coach Brian Swanson added, "We wanted to dictate the tempo, they're a pretty good team with the ball and I thought that we needed to handle to tempo. I think we did that but you know its still early. I like where we are, I think we can get a lot better, I think we need to get better. We have to be careful, we won the game we can't get too high."
