Charlottesville Cab Driver's Blog Shares Passenger Stories
If you hop into a cab in Charlottesville, you could get more than just a ride. One Charlottesville taxi driver is starting a unique way to engage people who need a lift.
You can catch Richard Montoya driving all around Charlottesville – especially during busy late night hours. And what he's learning from all his riders, he's sharing with everyone in the community on a blog.
"All the time, I get comments with how great Charlottesville is, with food and the entertainment, the university, and the cultural diversity we get in the city. It's been a joy hearing people say that," said Montoya.
Montoya was a graphic designer, then an international missionary. These days you can find him cruising the streets of Charlottesville.
"Downtown and the corner, that's where we get most of our pickups," said Montoya.
He hears all about the city from the people taking a ride in his backseat.
"People, most of the time, open up to me. I always try to start the conversation at times. I always felt that people have a story to tell. It's great hearing stories," said Montoya.
That's why he's chosen to share his experiences with others. His blog - Cab Chronicles - shares stories from the cab passengers.
"One of the favorites was just recently posted. A gentlemen came into my cab with a backpack in hand and he started to pull out his guitar and started to play for me right in the cab as we're going on to our destination," said Montoya.
Montoya says the different stories have given him a different perspective, a unique experience, a gift and even a bit of gossip. Of course, if you do catch a ride with Montoya, but do not want to be featured in his blog, you only have to say so.
