Immigration was a hot topic in the Shenandoah Valley Monday night, when Representative Bob Goodlatte hosted a town hall meeting at the Augusta County Government Center in Verona.
As chairman of the House Judiciary Committee the congressman wanted to talk about immigration.
Supporters of the Senate's comprehensive immigration reform spoke, as well as those who agreed with Goodlatte's point to secure the borders before granting citizenship.
"How wrong it is for a family to take a small child across the desert through dangerous tunnels in the backs of tractor-trailers where some of them suffocate? And I don't want to see it happen again," said Goodlatte (R) 6th District.
Goodlatte talked about bills in the house that deal with immigration enforcement, including verifying employees' Social Security numbers and keeping immigrants educated in the U.S. in specialized fields like science and math in the U.S. workforce.
