The Fluvanna County SPCA is hosting a drive-thru rabies and micro-chipping clinic. The shelter is offering rabies shots for $10, micro-chipping for $25, or both services for $30.

A rabies shot is required in Virginia - so the clinic is a way to follow the law and keep your pet healthy. The shelter's staff says micro-chipping helps make sure your pet will always find its way home.

"What happens is if a dog or cat comes into the shelter is we scan them automatically and those that have a micro-chip we are usually matching them up with their owners within 10 minutes, so very often the dog or cat doesn't even spend the night here they get to go home quickly," said Fluvanna SPCA director Jennie Shuklis.

The shelter says sending animals home immediately is better for the dog or cat.

The drive-thru is this upcoming Saturday, August 24 at Heritage Trail Dog Park in Palmyra. It runs from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
