Grand Jury to Consider Va. Sandy Hook Board Case

WOODSTOCK, Va. (AP) - A grand jury will consider the case against a man accused of walking into northern Virginia's Sandy Hook Elementary School with a 2-by-4 containing the words "High Powered Rifle."

Police say 33-year-old Christopher Johnson of Strasburg carried the board into the school days after a gunman killed 26 at a Connecticut school with the same name in December 2012.

On Friday, a misdemeanor disorderly conduct charge against Johnson was dropped in Shenandoah County General District Court.

Frederick County Assistant Commonwealth's Attorney Nick Manthos tells The Daily News-Record that he plans to present the case to an upcoming circuit court grand jury. Manthos was appointed as special prosecutor in the case.

Authorities say Johnson told police that he was attempting to deliver a message about school safety.
