Hundreds of kids in Charlottesville are packed and ready for the first day of classes thanks to the Back to School Bash at the nTelos Wireless Pavilion.

The event included free food, haircuts and backpacks stuffed with supplies. Doctors were also on hand to provide children the checkups they need to start the new school year.

"We're here at the fair to check kids shot schedules and make sure they're up to date. If the kids need vaccines we can schedule a time for them to get that vaccine," said Dr. Lilian Peake, director of the Thomas Jefferson Health District.

Sponsors included the African-American Pastors Council, the City of Charlottesville, and the city's public schools.

Classes start Wednesday in Charlottesville.
