Organizations to Hold Back to School Festival Saturday

Posted: Updated:

There will be a lot of free school supplies up for grabs in Charlottesville Saturday.

A handful of organizations including the African American Pastors' Council, Charlottesville City Schools, and the City of Promise will be hosting a back to school festival.

They are aiming to give away 1,500 filled backpacks at the nTelos Pavilion on Charlottesville’s downtown mall. The event runs from 2:00 to 5:00 Saturday afternoon.

The groups will also be offering free sports physicals and haircuts for the kids.

Pastor Alvin Edwards of the Mount Zion Baptist Church said, “I want children to always know that someone was concerned about their access, and so I want them to see a community that's interested in their education and help them get a good coming school year.”

There will also be free food, entertainment and information tables.
