Tom O'Brien Bringing Experience To UVa Coaching Staff
Associate head coach and tight ends coach Tom O'Brien
Training camp has a much different feel for the Virginia football team this year with several new coaches.
That includes, Tom O'Brien, who was hired in January to be Mike London's associate head coach for offense, and also the tight ends coach.
O'Brien returns to Charlottesville after a 16-year head coaching career at Boston College and NC State.
This is his 39th season of coaching, which included 15 years on George Welsh's staff at Virginia.
He's been a proven winner, with 12 of the 16 teams he's head coached advancing to bowl games.
Coach London says O'Brien's overall experience helps in all aspects on a daily basis.
"There's a working relationship where there's no ego," says London. "There's a collaborative effort on a lot of things, whether it's practice scheduling, recruiting philosophy, just the management of off the field issues. A lot of collaborative effort on some of the things I believe in, but also some reinforcement on the things he's done in the past."
