The Econo Lodge on Emmet Street in Charlottesville has been shut down. It will be demolished to make room for new green space.
The University of Virginia Foundation owns the motel and the land it sits on. The work to tear the building down could begin as soon as next Monday, August 19, but last into October.
Some of the furnishings and fixtures will be sold. Others will be given to the Salvation Army and Habitat for Humanity.
