Nelson County High School's girls' volleyball team had its first practice of the school year without Alexis Murphy Monday.
Alexis left her home in Shipman, reportedly headed for Lynchburg, Saturday, August 3. She was last seen at a Liberty gas station in Lovingston around 7:15 p.m. the same day.
The missing 17-year-old wears jersey number nine and plays the forward position. She is supposed to be a captain this year.
Her cousin Jasmine Murphy, the team's assistant coach, says Alexis was at volleyball camp the week before her disappearance.
"We have to make arrangements for her position, hoping she's coming back but knowing she's not there. The girls always say 'Nelson Strong' at the end of practice. They just keep their heads up and always smiling but trying to stay positive," said Murphy.
The volleyball team will be hosting a jamboree at the school this coming Saturday, August 17. Schools from across central Virginia will be coming to play in the event and many have offered their support.
